Look of the day: jewelry collection

People always ask me, "where'd you get that weird ring?"..........
Besides shoes, jewelry is my favorite accessory! I also believe the more, the better! I never used to wear jewelry until junior year of college..... so like 2005. Random fact.

I really started becoming attracted to interesting and unique vs. pretty jewelry thanks to the likes of Rumi Neely (of Fashiontoast) and Kristin Reiter (of BleachBlack)! Which reminds me of a story......

*I had a one day internship with RVCA two years ago in Costa Mesa, CA and Kristin Reiter was my gorgeous mentor. Even though I spent maybe 3 hours with the chick, I am more inspired by her and what she had to say than anyone I have ever met before. I remember showing up, looking so unoriginal and boring and feeling like a fish out of water. She probably thought "this girl needs some work"! I wasn't able to finish my internship with RVCA because I wasn't enrolled in school.. I was brand spankin' new to California and had just graduated from University of Minnesota. I was NOT about to enroll in school! I was completely disappointed, but it all worked out for the best. I ended up aspiring to be like Kristin and threw my life into designing and started my own clothing line called Risk vs. Reward Clothing with my fiance.*

ok, sorry for the flash back... just thought I'd share that fun story:) This post is for all the people who love jewelry and for those who wonder where I buy my gems. enjoy!

NYFW 2011: Top trends even us 'civilians' can enjoy

Fall trends seem to stay the same every year. Haven't you noticed? I have a "Teen People" from 1998 that showcases the same exact trends that I got out of New York Fashion Week for fall/winter 2011.

Of course, I wasn't cool enough to actually sit amongst the (most random!) celebrities and view these fashions with my own eyes, but I've done some extensive research. These 5 trends are pretty much my top 5 fashion go-to's in everyday life anyway... so basically I liked what I saw! 

BUT 

There were a few stand out designers that took fall looks and threw in surprises, which I think I dug even more than going with the norm! For example, Jeremy Scott (duh): Andy Warhol goes to a rave and/or comic convention dressed like a Japanese Harajuku girl. Loved it! 

Marc Jacobs created this 1940's-ish, turn of the century-ish, futuristic uniform. I know none of that goes together, but oh did it go together. sleek and sexy, and I loved the mixed textures. 

Lastly, Diane Von Furstenberg must've been day dreaming of her glory days as a disco queen. Pure 70's glam with surprising textiles and accessories.

Wish List: exploring the world of nail art and Chloe Sevigny

I've become obsessed with nail polish ever since I found this cheap salon doing the most amazing manicures that last two weeks... for $6! I haven't really strayed from the electric blue that you've seen me post, I'm just not ready to move on:) BUT, when I am ready, I shall dive into these.........

ROYGBIV right? I've never thought of this, looks so cool! Gotta go out and get all the right colors...

Burned out metallic, looks tough to achieve.. not with these badboys. MINX or OPI chic print (you can get them at sephora)

Shatter by OPI, not sure where you can buy this yet. Paint it over any color and as it dries it will reveal the color underneath, very vintage looking... just like crackle paint.

OK so since I'm not over this mesmerizing color, I think ill just turn it into a pure glitter look. You can buy this nail glitter at random beauty stores. You either dip the brush of clear nail polish and brush it on, or you paint our nail blue then dust it on top, tap off the excess and coat clear nail polish on top:)

Last, but not least, the miu miu nail. hand painted and glued on rhinestones. Looks like a lot of work, but I loooooove it.

Completely unrelated... but just as high up on my wishlist... almost every piece from Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony.

Absolutely not, ever: Floppy hats

Never, ever will you see me wearing this ugly trend. It looks like a mix between the outrageous hats women wear to the Kentucky Derby/ a summer hat worn at the beach/ a hat you'd wear only on "holiday". NOT something you'd wear with a sick outfit out on the town. It doesn't look good on anyone! Case in point, beautiful J LO looks like she just got out of the loony bin:

Go forth and shop wisely. Don't just buy because you've seen other people wearing it. Trust your instinct. If you do dig this look, it's ok:) Just don't wear when I'm around...

Caught in action: Mackenzie stone!

This stylish little pixie's name is Mackenzie Stone. Whenever, wherever, Mackenzie is slammin'! We call her "side boob" at Barney's Beanery 'cause she has the most gorgeous outer cleavage you'll ever see in a tank top! I would categorize her style under bohemian, but what I love most about her is she always shocks me with these random pieces that are completely unattainable. For example, the picture below...

Alexander Wang boots. whoa. AND they're electric blue. If they were my size, I would have knocked her unconscious and stole 'em. I've never met anyone in real life who owns these. 

What color green would you call that? It happened to match her LF knuckle ring perfectly! Dickweed? Whatever it is, I like it.

Plaid shirt- borrowed for the night, Leather jacket- LF, Tank top- Forever 21, leggings- Lacy Lady, her mom's store. That's right people, fashion is in her blood. Enjoy.
